Re: SLA500 Solid State Laser Upgrade Report

The Laser Innovations SLA500 Solid State Upgrade was done in January 2000. The install took only 4 hours. We have had no down time with the laser upgrade. We are currently running hatch scan speeds of 300 and the border is at 350 without any tagging compared to our SLA5000 which can only run at 200 and 250 respectively. The laser power at the vat has been steady and it has not been touched since the install. The quality of our parts are the same as our SLA5000. We are running RPC 300ND in the SLA500and RPC 100ND in the SLA5000. The resins are comparable in build parameters which gives us a good feel in evaluating each machine. In my opinion the SLA500screams! We have built 14” high parts overnight! If and when we buy another machine, we will buy an SLA500with the Laser Innovations upgrade. Great job Eric, and thank your staff.

     Dear Eric,

     I want to take this time and reflect on the past, for the last six years I have been responsible for managing
     Arrk's Rapid Prototyping Department. In my years of service from our first 250 back in '94 to our first 7000 this
     year I have seen vendors come and go, but none of the conviction, dedication, expertise and professionalism
     that Laser Innovations has shown towards me and my department through the years. It is difficult to establish
     this type of relationship with a vendor but you have proven that it can be done. For that I am extremely
     grateful. You have made a positive difference in running a successful department/company.

     Now that it is time for me to move on to other things, I feel completely comfortable passing on the baton to my
     successor knowing that he is going to get the best service out there, to go with the best lasers. Just a quick
     note on that (a little ego boost, as if you need it). In the time we have been running your Spectra laser on the
     500 machine (around 3800 hours) we still have 420mw as I expected that from your laser. On the other hand,
     I have to mention that I have had to "warrant replace" 6 DPSS lasers in the same time frame because they
     died or dropped below 100mw. Add to that my 2 weeks down time to get a new laser and my in-house
     engineering cost to keep them running at a somewhat acceptable power when they don't die young. But
     enough about that, this letter is not about venting.  This letter is to thank you for your great service and product,
     your support and advice and your friendship through the years of working together in this "I need it today"
     business. 

     My only regret is that I did not get the chance to finish upgrading the last 3 machines with your lasers,
     as well as Laser Innovations knowledge on running a tight machine. But it will be implemented in the
     2001plan that way I know that the department will be bulletproof for the years to come.
